Welcome to VeinFocus, the website for Vein Surgery and Treatment Center of Northern California. The Vein Center is the practice of Daniel L. Monahan, M.D. The purpose and goal of Vein Surgery and Treatment Center of Northern California is to provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment of varicose veins, spider veins, and other complex vein problems for the Sacramento region and Northern California. Dr. Monahan's expertise provides strategies for the most effective, safe, and cost-efficient care possible for patients with both health and cosmetic concerns related to vein disease. Our philosophy is to provide the best quality care with friendliness, empathy, and compassion.

Diagnosis of vein disease with advanced ultrasound techniques has become the standard of care. At Vein Surgery and Treatment Center ultrasound is provided in the office to accurately identify vein abnormalities so that treatment can be directed specifically at the source of the problem. Advanced ultrasound has also enabled new technology in treatment of vein disease. We use injection techniques for spider veins and varicose veins, often using ultrasound imaging to treat abnormal veins not visible on the surface. Vein stripping has become obsolete, replaced by minimally invasive techniques to close, rather than remove, the abnormal veins. We use a radiofrequency system called the VNUS Closure procedure. Complex vein problems, like venous ulcers, are managed with specialized evaluation and treatment. Diagnosis and treatment is provided at the Center on an outpatient basis, with essentially no need to restrict activities following treatment.
